Persian handmade carpets can be divided into two categories. Persian carpets and rugs of various types were woven in parallel by nomadic tribes, in village and town workshops, and by royal court manufactories alike. As such, they represent different, simultaneous lines of tradition, and reflect the history of Iran and its various peoples.
The average range of carpets is counting from 350000 until 550000 knots per square meter. Anything above or below is effects the quality of the carpet. Normal carpets that people buy in usual are in these ranges of knots. There are other factors which is effecting the carpets quality such as the quality of the materials or type of colors (Natural or stable). Moreover, the design and harmony is shaping these carpets. All these factors together, creates good carpets.
There are many cities that weave these carpets in Iran. These cities such as Naeen, Tabriz, Kashan, Isfahan, Qom, Bakhtiyar, Moud, Balouch, Shiraz, Kerman and etc. Each carpet from these cities has different characters. By viewing these characters, you can identify the carpets from each other.
